When to Go to Cappadocia?
Determining the ideal time to visit Cappadocia is a matter of very personal preference. Because this magnificent geography offers a different beauty in every season. However, to give a little more detail according to the periods:
Winter in Cappadocia: Cappadocia, which is under the influence of the continental climate, experiences a cold and rainy period during the winter months. Snowfall and cold weather can make it difficult to travel in open areas and prevent activities such as balloon tours. However, seeing Cappadocia under snow is also a different beauty. If cold weather and snow are not a problem for you, you can experience the magic of Cappadocia in winter.
Summer in Cappadocia: During the summer months, Cappadocia enters a hot and dry period. Especially in July and August, temperatures can be very high and it can be difficult to move around in open areas. During this period, it may be difficult to spend time outside due to the influence of the sun. Therefore, visiting Cappadocia in summer may be a more challenging process than in winter.
Spring Months in Cappadocia: If you want to escape from the cold of winter and the heat of summer, going to Cappadocia in spring is the best option. Especially in April-May and September-October, the weather is milder and it is an ideal time to visit nature. Additionally, balloon tours are held more frequently during this period. However, you may encounter rainy weather from time to time, and this depends on luck.
In conclusion, Determining the best time to visit Cappadocia depends entirely on your personal preference. Cappadocia, which has a different beauty in every season, will fascinate you and offer an unforgettable experience.
Transportation to Cappadocia
Transportation to Cappadocia can be done by plane or vehicle. As many people are not aware, there is an airport in Nevşehir and therefore it is possible to reach Nevşehir by plane. If we are based in Istanbul, you can reach Nevşehir in approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and it is quite easy compared to other options. However, if you do not plan to participate in the tour organization, it is not possible to visit the Cappadocia region without a car, so you need to rent a car. Otherwise, it will not be possible to reach many places by public transportation.
We rented our car from rental companies serving at Nevşehir Airport, such as Sixt. Likewise, you can choose companies such as Avis at the airport and decide by comparing prices. However, if you come across a busy period, the prices may be quite high, in which case, if you have your own vehicle, driving directly from your location may be a more logical and economical option.
A tip for those who will rent a car: Organizations such as Turkcell, Vodafone or Miles and Smiles usually have partnerships with car rental companies and thus you can benefit from discounts. Don't forget to check such opportunities before renting.
Main roads are generally problem-free, but you may have to wander through mountains to get to alternative areas. Hotels may be on hills or in places that are difficult to climb, and if you come across a snowy period, you may experience some difficulties on the roads. In this case, if possible, renting a 4x4 vehicle may make your job easier.
If you are planning to go to Nevşehir from Istanbul with your own vehicle, the distance between Istanbul and Nevşehir is approximately 740 kilometers. If you're patient with traffic, the journey usually takes 7-8 hours. Don't forget to stop by Salt Lake on the way, don't miss this experience!
Is Cappadocia Expensive?
Whether Cappadocia is expensive or not depends on your accommodation and food and beverage options. Hotel prices increase, especially during peak tourist periods. When it comes to eating and drinking, if you go to places that offer popular or special tastes, you can pay similar amounts to the prices you pay at a good restaurant in Istanbul.
It will be useful to obtain a Museum Card before you go or to purchase a Museum Card when you go to Cappadocia. If you are a student, you can benefit from the Museum Card, which provides free entrance to many places such as Göreme Open Air Museum and Zelve. In addition, İş Bank Maximum credit card holders can enter the museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism free of charge for 1 month every year. However, keep in mind that to benefit from this discount, the credit card must be in your name and you must show your ID.
If you are looking for a low-budget holiday, try to choose non-touristy periods. In this way, your accommodation fee will be more economical.
Balloon Issue in Cappadocia
An issue that attracts the attention of every tourist going to Cappadocia is balloon tours. However, there are many options in this regard and choosing the best and reliable company can be difficult. A reliable company such as Butterfly Balloons may be preferred.
The reason why Cappadocia is popular for balloon tours is its non-windy weather conditions. However, balloon tours are costly and prices can vary from 300 Lira to 175 Euros. Prices may be slightly lower during the winter. For example, if you join Butterfly Balloons, a reliable company, you will pay around 140 Euros instead of 175 Euros.
Balloon tours are usually held early in the morning and the flight takes approximately 1 hour.
If you're concerned about safety, remember that the chances of getting into a balloon accident are much lower than the chances of getting into a car accident. Before you get on the balloon, the pilots explain to you what you need to do for your safety. Don't forget to hold on when landing!
